I went camping with my son this last weekend. He recently turned 4 and finally decided he was old enough to use the potty. Hallelujah! We camped at Spirit Lake in the high Uintah mountains in Utah.
Do you ever wonder why you do things? I do. I was going to go to another camping spot but at the last minute decided that I’d go to this place that some coworkers said was the most beautiful place on Earth. So I turned the car around and drove another 20 miles or so to the turnoff for the campground. Right at the turnoff a car was parked with the hood up. There was a young couple and a 2 year-old child inside so I decided to ask if they needed help. Their late model Taurus had overheated and they were waiting for it to cool down. I talked to them for a few minutes about their situation and thought the car should have cooled down enough after 45 minutes of waiting so I told them to try to start the car. Fortunately, the car started and we soon parted ways. Afterwards, I wondered if there was a purpose to me turning around and traveling by there. I didn’t really do anything to fix this couple’s car, but perhaps I helped give some encouragement and boost their spirits just a little. I’ll never meet this couple again and I’ll probably not know the answer to the question in this life.
As for the camping trip, we had a good time. I tried to spend lots of time with my son and not rush getting back or sticking to a schedule. Unfortunately, we didn’t catch any fish, but I think the great pancakes I made helped make up for it.
